Germany — Automotive Plant Micro Data Center
Three production sites received identical 8-rack pods to run MES and vision systems at the line, replacing ageing server closets.
01 — The challenge
Each plant ran its manufacturing execution system from a converted office closet with a split air conditioner and a single tower UPS. Summer failures had already stopped a production line twice, and the IT team had no remote visibility into conditions at any site.
02 — The solution
A standard 8-rack MicroCube MD pod was defined once and deployed identically at three plants: in-row cooling with N+1 units, a 200 kVA modular UPS, overhead busway with per-rack metering, and DCIM reporting to the group's central monitoring platform.
Because the pod is pre-engineered, each site needed only a slab, a power feed and a network uplink. Commissioning took nine weeks including factory acceptance testing.
03 — The result
The three pods have run for 18 months without a cooling or power incident. Mean time to diagnose an environmental alarm dropped from hours to minutes, and the group now treats the pod as its standard for any site above 60 kW.
