Indonesia — Colocation Hall Retrofit with In-row Cooling
A 320-rack hall with uneven heat density was retrofitted row by row, without taking a single customer offline.
01 — The challenge
The hall had been designed for 4 kW racks and was now selling 12 kW racks in the same footprint. Room-level CRAC units could not deliver the airflow, hot spots appeared under newly installed high-density cages, and the provider could not afford a shutdown to install containment.
02 — The solution
We installed 46 AquaRow IRC in-row units in six phases, working aisle by aisle during maintenance windows. Each phase included cold-aisle containment doors and blanking, plus per-rack temperature sensors tied into the existing DCIM platform.
Cooling capacity is now modulated by actual load instead of running all CRAC units at fixed output — the single biggest contributor to the energy saving.
03 — The result
Cooling energy dropped 31% year on year while the hall's average rack density rose from 4.1 kW to 7.8 kW. Hot-spot alarms fell from 60–80 per month to under five, and no customer circuit was interrupted during the works.
